Monday, Jan. 11, 2010

The chapter meeting of the Fairfield/Westchester P.H.A held at Coker Farm was called to order at 7pm by President Lynn Peters. There were 26 members in attendance. The minutes were read from the November 2009 meeting which were accepted as presented.

MEMBERSHIP: The 2010 dues notices have all been mailed out.

John Scapelhorn is now a professional member of the F/W PHA.

Applicants for professional membership are Tom Keough, Laurie Ann Archambault, Lise Harrell, Gillian Wander and Amanda Wise. These applications will be held over until the March meeting.

HIGH SCORE AWARD PROGRAM: Points are up to date within a week. It was decided that learner judges should only judge shows that are unrecognized by the USEF and USHJA (i.e. just schooling shows). The 1/2 point USHJA shows shall have a licensed judge.

Naomi Gauruder spoke about what was covered at the USHJA meeting she attended. Below is her presentation:

USHJA has formed a task force at the direction of USEF to create sets of measurable show standards that will be implemented by next year. Currently in our rule book, there are few standards actually listed (ie, it doesn’t even specify you need a ring – we can hold a show in our living room!)  and as long as poorly run shows continue to pay their dues each year, USEF has no recourse to fine or suspend a show.   So EVERYTHING is getting opened & on the table – mileage rules, show rating system, ring size, ability to maintain footing, food concession requirements, additional required areas for lunging, you name it… and with the new requirements, a get of penalties to be applied if the standards aren’t met.   I’m on the task force.  We are meeting in Dallas TX, Feb 1-2, and Wellington FL,  March 1-2.  PHA has agreed to pay for my travel expenses (USHJA picks up the hotel)

USEF Medal will continue to be at Harrisburg. Saturday has been transformed into the “1st Round” instead of a warm up class.  The course will be a real equitation course, but not as technical as a finals course. All those without a “major fault”  will be able to move on to the following day for the “Finals round”  Sunday, they will start with a 0 score.  Idea is to weed through the kids who are not prepared to make it to Sunday, but still give everyone a chance to get to Harrisburg.

Trainer certification – this is really getting pushed. I was not able to attend the meeting (of course it ran on top of the horse show meeting)  but word has it that possibly in the future, this will become a mandatory certification in order to sign entry blanks at horse shows… that was apparently brought up at the  Buffalo NY trainer symposium. Not sure what was said about that rumor at the convention.

Larry Langer and Joe Fargis co-won the lifetime achievement award.  It was really neat – Larry has started with Frank and Ann Grenci at Fox Hill Farms (actually at their place prior to them purchasing Fox Hill)  and Larry invited Ann to be his guest that night at the awards dinner. During his acceptance speech, he mentioned Ann.  It was really nice!  I know she really appreciated being recongnized for who started him!

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 9:10pm

Respectfully submitted,

Barbara Filippelli and Lisa Sherman
